Violence at Howe Community Park Sends 4 Shot in Sacramento's Arden-Arcade

Sacramento County deputies are working a shooting that unfolded on April 18 2026 at the Howe Community Park area as authorities were shutting down an unsanctioned gathering of several hundred people.

Before the Gunfire

Sacramento County law enforcement were first dispatched to the park at about half past six in the evening after obtaining information of people potentially armed with concealed firearms. Following that, additional information came in about an alleged brawl occurring near the park.

A law enforcement helicopter scanned the area from the air but was unable to locate the reported altercation. However, it was evident that hundreds of people had come together at the location without official sanction.

When the Shots Rang Out

Law enforcement personnel began the process of clearing the park by forming a perimeter and broadcasting over loudspeakers commanding the crowd to disperse at once. Nearly 15 minutes were spent for the gathering to break up.

As the crowd was being cleared that an estimated 20 to 25 shots rang out. The sudden gunfire caused mass panic. Sacramento County Sheriff's deputies wasted no time in finding those who had been shot.

Four People Shot

By the time the scene was secured, four shooting victims were located with gunshot injuries. The victims — a group of one female and three male victims each apparently in their 20s — were taken to Sacramento area hospitals. Medical personnel confirmed that two victims sustained immediate injuries, one person had injuries of a moderate nature, and one Arden Arcade Sacramento crime 2026 sustained minor gunshot wounds. According to authorities, all four were expected to survive.

Metro Fire Sacramento assisted at the location and provided medical assistance the injured at the park.

Crime Scene Evidence

The center of the incident was determined to have happened along Cottage Way close to the local Home Depot situated at the 2200 block of Howe Avenue. Detectives discovered further ballistic evidence in the form of shell casings scattered along Cottage Way. Projectile impacts were also found in the iron perimeter fence near the Home Depot store. This evidence showed that a shooter had been aiming south from the Cottage Way area aimed at the Home Depot. The nearby Home Depot was locked down during the incident. Crime scene personnel stayed at the location late into the evening.

Suspect Vehicle Located

Intelligence received via scanner audio established that a Kia vehicle was pulled over in Solano County California. Four individuals were held for questioning. Sheriff's units were sent to retrieve the detainees to collect the individuals for formal questioning. Video reviewed at the scene made clear that two shooters had been involved.
